Arabic Language Day 2020: A goal in a book

Ever since man has existed, he has been busy.
looking for ways to a better reality.
by war and peace.
by negotiations and plans.
The goal has always been a present of well-being and a tomorrow of prosperity.
On this arduous path
plagued by a germ that crosses all borders.
Language has never been a luxury.
but an accurate and truthful witness.
and an intellectual and expressive need.
Language reminds, warns, awakens, and saves.
Language reminds that the roots do not end.
Rather, it extends to the next days, seasons of nature, and the climate cycle.
Today’s thought is tomorrow’s reality.
Today’s thought is tomorrow’s result.
It warns against the sight of poverty, hunger and homelessness when it becomes the reality of every time and place.
It awakens with a word, a tone, an example, a picture.
It saves with an unrealistic beauty that depicts the harsh reality.
Language helps nations overcome silence and noise.
the multitude of concerns and priorities.
And the broken dreams of people who migrate in search of a hope that enters the realm of reality.
On Arabic Language Day
and in virtual reality.
The heart of the event is not a square in a city drowning in feet.
nor an invention that threatens to change the face of humanity in a city floating on modernity.
nor a man-made or natural disaster.
nor a festival of shapes and colors.
Rather, it is all this in a story or novel that satisfies the thirst of letters for meaning, cause or purpose.
“A Goal in a Book” is the title chosen by ESCWA to celebrate the Arabic language and languages this year.
in an attempt to link the content of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 goals to the heritage of humanity.

The reader meets what led to these goals in books in which the letters of the language flow with anxiety and joy, no matter what.
